The two ways to change Minecraft, and what each means for your plan.
Plugin-based servers
Plugins run on Paper or Purpur and change gameplay while players keep the normal game client. Great for survival, minigames and community servers.
Suggested starting point: Ravager or Wither.
Modded servers
Mods run on Fabric or Forge and add new blocks, mechanics and dimensions. Players install the matching mods, and modpacks need noticeably more RAM.
Suggested starting point: Warden or Wither Storm.

Which server software will be supported?
Paper, Purpur, Fabric and Forge are planned. Exact versions will be listed once the node images are configured and tested.
Can I run plugins and mods?
Plugins on Paper or Purpur, and mods on Fabric or Forge, are supported by design. Modpacks need more RAM, so larger plans are the better fit for them.
How much RAM do I need?
As a rough guide, small survival servers run on 2 GB, plugin servers on 4 GB and large modpacks on 8 GB or more. Player count, view distance and mods all matter.
